Breeds of Livestock - Welsummer
Welsummer
Originally from Holland, the Welsummer chicken is a dual purpose chicken of meat and eggs. Welsummers are "chocolate eggers" with large, reddish-brown (and often speckled) eggs given four times a week. They have a medium build, of about 6-7 lbs, and are fairly commonplace.
The APA recognizes one variety, the red partridge, and they are reported to be intelligent and friendly birds, although not especially docile.
Welsummers have a single comb and good constitution in the winter.
