About the Species

Ducks are relatively small, short-necked, large-billed waterfowl. Male ducks, known as drakes, and females, known as hens or ducks, exhibit different plumage, as most males molt twice annually and usually have brighter colored feathers. The different sexes also display different calls. Ducks will mate for the season and hens will lay large clutches of smooth-shelled eggs.
