Also Known By: Somali Brasileiro (Port), Rabo gordo

The Brazilian Somali is a hair breed which originated from the Blackhead Persian crossed with local sheep. Four pairs of breeding animals were imported from the West Indies in 1939. The breed is white with a black head. Both sexes are polled and it is small framed. They are one of the fat tail breeds.

The breed is reported to the lowest mortality rate from birth to weaning of the breeds in Brazil. It is also used successfully with other breeds such as Santa Inês and Morada Nova.
