Where can Animal Science lead you?

Kass Pfeiffer grew up in Orlando, Okla. as a fifth generation agriculturist. The Pfeiffers have always been rooted in the Angus cattle business, but in 2005 they invested in 150 Boer does to diversify their operation. This unknown passion for raising does has turned Pfeiffer Farms into a progressive herd that hosts and cosigns 15 sales each year. “Our family truly enjoys helping junior members achieve their goals in the show ring, and we honestly believe the work ethic, responsibility, and drive junior exhibitors learn showing livestock are pivotal skills to a successful future,” Pfeiffer said.

Pfeiffer earned an associate degree from Redlands Community College, where she was a member of the livestock judging team, the Aggie Club, and served as a Student Ambassador. “I didn’t have a decision to make regarding where I would continue my education,” Pfeiffer said. “For me there was only one option, Oklahoma State University.” From OSU, Pfeiffer earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science with and minor in agricultural economics in 2014 and a master’s degree in meat science in 2016. She was a member of the 2013 Livestock Judging team, 2014 National Champion Meat Animal Evaluation team, and received the All-American Livestock Judging scholar award for a second time. As an Animal Science student, Pfeiffer served on Animal Science Leadership Alliance and Alpha Zeta. In 2014, she was named a Top Five Animal Science Senior.

Pfeiffer was also a member of the OALE Class XI. “The program creates a once in a lifetime experience for students,” Pfeiffer said. “Not only do students get to travel internationally, but also, the students in OALE are privileged to network with industry leaders, create professional relationships, and find career opportunities they would not have otherwise.” She is grateful for the relationships she gained with the other members of her OALE class, with whom she spent the year traveling throughout Oklahoma, across the nation, and internationally, as well as a ten-day span working for the Oklahoma Youth Expo.

Currently, Pfeiffer serves as the Director of Operations at the Oklahoma Youth Expo. She accredits her position to the skills that she obtained through participation in extracurricular activities like Livestock Judging and OALE, as well as the knowledge and hands-on experience gained through her animal science classwork. “I have been extremely blessed with a career revolving around the junior project world and the livestock industry,” Pfeiffer said. Additionally, Pfeiffer is a member of the Animal Science Alumni Association Board of Directors, where she has the opportunity to give back to the program she says has provided so much for her.

Kass continues to represent the Animal Science brand of excellence, and we are appreciative of Pfeiffer Farms’ support as a Major Sponsor of the Department of Animal Science.
